Making the right decision first time

  • Decision making is an important part of any business, and many of us need to make critical decisions daily. When it comes to decision making in teams, knowing who to include, when to include them and how to engage in the decision-making process is vital for effective decision making. Billy will guide you in developing a strategy for effective team decision-making.

Five things that destroy teams

  • It is a team leader's job to build and maintain an effective team.  Successful leaders help groups to go through the development phases and reach peak performance quickly. But, in order to do this, the leader needs to be aware of and avoid certain pitfalls that can destroy the cohesiveness on his or her team. This lesson points out five pitfalls any team leader needs to be aware of.

Understanding Team Conflict

Managing Team Conflict

  • Conflict in the workplace can be positive when channelled correctly. Once you understand where team conflict comes from, you will be able to manage it effectively. This lesson looks at some strategies you can use to turn team conflict into a positive for your team.

Six Strategies to Improve Team Effectiveness

  • If you’re a leader in your organisation, you likely spend a lot of time trying to come up with or implement ways to improve team performance or team effectiveness. For any team to be a High-Performing Team, they need to function effectively. Billy will discuss six strategies you can implement that will make your team function more effectively.

Types of Teams and the Challenges they face

  • The type of team you choose to form depends on its purpose, location, and organisational structure. Each type of team comes with its unique set of strengths and weaknesses. In order to fully utilise your team, you first need to understand where each type of teams works the best. This lesson discusses some common types of teams, the challenges they face and their advantages.

Performance Management for Successful Teams

  • Performance management is a critical aspect in leading a high-performance team, as any leader needs to determine whether the team is reaching its goals and which team members are contributing and which aren’t. This lesson is an introductory discussion on how to manage and track the performance of your team and its members.

Characteristics of a High-Performance Team

  • “Every high – performing team believes it exists for a compelling reason and that the world will be better for what it does. Its purpose is not the task or work it does but the benefit it delivers.”  - Linda Hill and Kent Lineback

  • Although there are many different types of teams, High-Performance Teams have some common characteristics that make them successful. In this lesson, Billy discusses some of these common characteristics and why you would like to develop these in your team.

Leading a High-Performance Team

  • While creating the team is important, managing them is even more so. You may have assembled the best team of employees around. But with inefficient leadership, your A-list employees might end up performing at C level. In the last lesson of this short course, you will take a closer look at yourself as a leader and what skills, knowledge, values and characteristics you need to be a successful leader of a High-Performance Team.
