SA Accounting Academy (SAAA) has put out the call for 50 black African commerce graduates to sign up for a four month training programme aimed at readying them for employment as professional accountants.

“This is an intensive training programme for African commerce graduates and will ultimately result in them achieving the professional designation of Business Accountant, or BA (SA), which is awarded by the SA Institute of Business Accountants (Saiba) and is registered with the South African Qualifications Authority,” says Rob Murray, CEO of SAAA.

“Successful graduates will start with a four month training programme and then enter employment within one of several SAIBA member accounting firms, allowing them to complete the requirements to become a BA (SA) over the next 7 to 9 months. By April 2020, they will become fully registered Business Accountants.”

To qualify for entry to the programme, you must be a Commerce graduate from a recognized tertiary institute in South Africa, (BCom, BCom, BAcc, BTech or National Diploma). Tertiary institute means a University or University of Technology. This includes CTA or Honours students.

Preference will be given to those with Accounts 3, but those with lesser accounting qualifications will also be considered. To qualify for entry to the programme, applicants must not have been in formal employment for a period of six months prior.

“Our target is to assist all programme participants to find sustainable employment by entering the accounting profession, by being employed by Business Accountants in Practice. The end objective is that they will start off as graduates with no experience, become trained, gain experience and finally achieve the valuable professional designation of Business Accountant BA (SA),” says Murray.

The four–month training lasts from June 2019 to late September 2019. Successful candidates will gain work experience both o the programme and later in formal employment.

Initial applications can be made by sending a CV through to [email protected].
