Overview:

The CIPC is currently running a Programme aimed at  rolling out XBRL (eXtenisble Business Reporting Language) as Digital Financial Reporting Standard. This will apply to submission of all Annual Financial Statements (AFSs) from entities to the CIPC as from 1 July 2018, when XBRL will become mandatory. Receiving financial data in a structured format, as enabled by XBRL, both efficiency and effectiveness of the CIPC will be vastly improved.

Through the powerful analysis capabilities of XBRL, CIPC will be able to determine trends in various industries and the economy as a whole. XBRL also provides benefits to entities, like better accuracy in reporting, and cost effectiveness with regards to preparation of AFSs.
