Each month, Gerhard will take a detailed look at a particular aspect of running a successful accountancy practice, such as staff management, marketing and cross-selling your services and will give you practical tips and guidance on steps that you can take immediately to improve your employees’ and your practice’s performance.

Overview

Gerhard Stols is a 32 year old Chartered Accountant from Pretoria and also has a Masters in Tax. He is passionate about advising entrepreneurs and growing financial services firms. Gerhard is the Managing Director at AmaxSA. His company has grown from 8 employees to 70 employees in the last 5 years. During this time Gerhard has experienced what works and has also learned some expensive lessons.

This series of webinars will focus on managing and growing your business. Gerhard will touch on all aspects that a financial services firm should consider. All feedback and suggestions from attendees will be discussed in the subsequent webinars in order to make these webinars valuable and interactive.

    • How to interview and select staff
    • How to manage and motivate staff
    • How to prune non-performing staff
  • Marketing your services
    • This is one of the areas where most professionals fall short: Gerhard will look at marketing strategies that work and the ones that are not worthwhile
  • Cross selling services
    • Gerhard will look at whether you should have a focused approach or if a diversified service offering is more beneficial. There are pros and cons to both
  • Practice management
    • Practice management is the art of performing all of the above. Gerhard will discuss what works for him and how you can benefit from this approach
    • The way accountants are doing business is changing rapidly: how can you stay abreast of these changes and avoid the risk of being left behind?

Presenter

Gerhard Stols, Director, Amax SA

Gerhard was born in Pretoria and matriculated at Akasia High School. After completing his BCom (Hons) at the University of Pretoria he finished his articles at Deloitte and obtained his chartered accountant designation. He also completed his MCom taxation degree. He then joined the firm, Amax SA, as one of the directors and is currently the auditor in charge of the BEE department. He is also a registered BEE verification agent with IRBA.

Amax BEE is a BEE verification firm. We’ve been in the industry for the past 5 years. With over 2500 BEE Verifications to date, Amax BEE has become the IRBA market leader in the B-BBEE ratings and related fields.
