• Gain a clear understanding of the auditor's role in public sector auditing, including the responsibilities when the AGSA opts not to perform an audit and when audits are conducted on behalf of AGSA. 

• Become familiar with the Public Audit Act (PAA), the IRBA’s and AGSA’s guidance, and how these shape the auditing process in the public sector, ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory standards. 

• Understand what constitutes a material irregularity, the auditor’s responsibilities in identifying and reporting them, and the processes for addressing such irregularities. 

• Learn about the necessity of maintaining high audit quality, following the AGSA’s audit methodology, and complying with both the IRBA Code of Professional Conduct and international auditing standards. 

• Understanding of the broader scope of public sector audits, including audits of financial statements, reported performance information, and compliance with key legislation, as well as AGSA’s focus areas and discretionary audits.

Obtaining your CPD certificate
