About this Course
This online short course provides participants with a practical introduction to bookkeeping for businesses within a South African context. The course is designed to equip aspiring bookkeepers, administrators, small business owners and finance staff with the knowledge and skills to record, organise and analyse financial transactions and maintain a clear picture of a business’s financial health.
The course covers the core building blocks of bookkeeping: the accounting equation and double-entry system, the cash and accrual bases of accounting, the chart of accounts, the accounting cycle, T-accounts, the income statement, the balance sheet, the trial balance, share capital and fixed assets.
Learners will work through each topic in practical terms: classifying accounts, determining debits and credits, capturing journal entries and posting to the general ledger. The course integrates worked examples, rand-based transaction scenarios and sample reports to ensure immediate workplace application.
Particular attention is given to the full bookkeeping workflow — from capturing transactions through journal entries, posting and the trial balance, to preparing the income statement and balance sheet and closing the books — so that learners can manage a complete set of books from start to finish.
By the end of the course, participants will have a confident working knowledge of business bookkeeping fundamentals, enabling them to keep accurate, complete and well-organised financial records for employers and clients.
