Overview   

Ethics is knowing the difference between what one has a right to do and what is right to do. The subject of ethics is split into three distinct areas that apply to one's personal space, business interactions, and professional behaviour.  

The first area to look at involves the individual - personal ethics. It is important to take a pulse check with ourselves and become aware of where we stand as individuals before we look outward. This topic assists the individual to be able to reflect on his/her own personal ethics before looking outward. After all, the individual makes up the collective of the profession.   

SA Accounting Academy has collaborated with Caryn Maitland CA(SA) to develop and present a 4-part ethics series . Join Caryn on 25 August 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for this second instalment of the series where she discusses personal ethics and how they form the foundational basis for business and professional ethics.

About the presenter 

Caryn Maitland CA(SA) 

Caryn Maitland is a Chartered Accountant (SA). She has been a member of IRBA as a registered auditor and accountant since 2002 and is also a registered member of SAICA. 

Caryn has lectured Auditing and Accounting at various institutions and has conducted independent workshops and seminars for professional accountants since 2006 on various topics.  

Caryn has presented on the national tour for the annual Legislation Update with ProBeta Training (Pty) Ltd in 2014 and 2015, as well as on the FASSET national tour for the Tax Administration Act in 2014.  She is also involved with the annual SAICA SMP Technical tour.
