ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Annelien Feldtmann CA(SA), Neuro-Coach
Annelien is a Neuro-Coach and Chartered Accountant (SA) with 21 years of experience in the public and private sector. She is deeply passionate about people development and has been actively involved in various roles to assist individuals to become the professionals they dream to be.
Her roles include the following:
She was a SAICA Reviewer and is a registered assessor with in-depth knowledge of the SAICA Competency Framework and learnership requirements. She was a committee member of TRECO and AMS (now TPSC);
She was a SAICA Training Officer and later the Senior Manager – Trainee Auditor Scheme who managed the three auditing and accounting learnerships (SAICA; SAIGA and ACCA) within the Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) (1 300 learners annually spread across the 9 provinces) and has in-depth knowledge of the practical challenges, roles and responsibilities of employers and trainees;
She is the chairperson of the Assessment Committee (which is responsible for the final qualification examination) of the South African Institute of Taxation (SAIT) and also a SAIT assessor (reviewing the compliance with the learnership requirements and logbook compliance);
She has been involved in distance learning institutions and even compiled the curriculum transformation competency framework for the College of Accounting Sciences at the University of South-Africa (UNISA);
She managed a UK based professional development company as well as a South-African based study support organisation; and
She is a qualified Executive, Business and Career Neuro-Coach (clients in the USA; UK and South-Africa) and have also provided mentorship to dynamic females in the public sector in the USA as well as Jamaica.
PREREQUISITES / ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

MODULE 1 - HIGH LEVEL OVERVIEW AND ROLE PLAYERS
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Understanding what the Training Regulations cover; and
Understanding who the role players are.
MODULE 2 – GENERAL PROVISIONS
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Understand how to interpret the Training Regulations; and
List the discretionary powers of SAICA.
MODULE 3 – ACCREDITATION AS A TRAINING OFFICE
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
List the requirements for accreditation and re-accreditation;
Understand the factors taken into consideration to determine the accreditation period;
Understand the implications of a very high risk rating;
Clarity on the mentorship programme; and
Understand when accreditation will laps automatically and when it will be cancelled.
MODULE 4 – TRAINING OFFICER REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
List the requirements to become a Training Officer;
List the duties of the Training Officer;
Understand the responsibilities of the Training Officer; and
Explain who is responsible for the SAICA training contract fees.
MODULE 5 – TRAINEE ACCOUNTANT RESPONSIBILITIES
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
List the duties and responsibilities of a trainee accountant;
Understand the hours of work and overtime implications; and
Gain insights into the possible conditions of employment and employment contract implications.
MODULE 6 – TRAINING CONTRACT
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
List the entry requirements for a training contract;
Understand the implications of a probation period;
Explain the term and hours of a training contract;
Understand the implications of academic remission;
Awareness of the registration requirements of the training contract;
Understand the requirements iro secondment;
List the permissible grounds for suspension of a training contract;
List the grounds for cancellation of a training contract;
List the cancellations that do not attract a cancellation penalty;
List the entry requirements for a training contract;
Understand the discharge requirements; and
Awareness of the exemption from a training contract.
MODULE 7 – EXTENSION OR CANCELLATION OF A TRAINING CONTRACT

Understand when a training contract must be extended and when it may be extended.
MODULE 8 – DISCHARGE OF A TRAINING CONTRACT
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
List the requirements to discharge a training contract.
MODULE 9 – ASSESSMENTS

Understand the requirements iro assessments; and
Explain the process to be followed iro appeals to assessment decisions
MODULE 10 - DISPUTES; COMPLAINTS AND APPEALS
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Understand what process to follow in respect of disputes between trainee accountants and training officers;
Explain the process to follow in respect of disputes between trainee accountants/training officers and SAICA;
List instances where disciplinary action against a trainee accountant does not need to be reported to SAICA ; and
Understand what process to follow when a trainee accountant reports to SAICA any circumstances that may constitute punishable conduct on the part of a Training Officer.
MODULE 11 – SIMULATIONS
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Understand what constitutes a simulation; and
Explain the requirements of a simulation.
MODULE 12 – RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Define RPL;
Understand the RPL process; and
List the maximum RPL that can be allowed.
MODULE 13 – ACADEMIC PROGRESS RULE
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Understand the purpose of the academic progress rule;
Define the academic progress rule;
Explain the implications of not adhering to the academic progress rule;
Define Academic recess; and
Understand the implications of academic recess on the training contract.
MODULE 14 – SAICA VISITS: HOW TO PREPARE AND WHAT TO EXPECT
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Understand the purpose of a SAICA visit;
Gain clarity on how to prepare for a SAICA visit and what to expect on the day of the visit; and
Understand what to do with the SAICA visit report.
