About this Course
This online short course provides participants with a practical introduction to managing accounts receivable for businesses within a South African context. The course is designed to equip credit controllers, bookkeepers, accountants, small business owners and finance staff with the knowledge and skills to extend credit responsibly, monitor customer payments and protect business cash flow.
The course covers the core building blocks of accounts receivable management: the AR process from credit assessment to cash application, payment terms and best practices, common collection problems and their solutions, key AR metrics, the accounting treatment of receivables and bad debts, customer segmentation and debt recovery strategies, and the VAT implications of debtors.
Learners will work through each topic in practical terms: assessing customer creditworthiness, issuing and tracking invoices, calculating DSO and other AR ratios, applying the correct accounting entries for bad debts, and following a structured escalation process when payments fall overdue.
Particular attention is given to the full accounts receivable lifecycle — from extending credit and issuing invoices through monitoring, collecting and reconciling payments, to writing off irrecoverable debt and reclaiming VAT — so that learners can manage a complete debtors book from start to finish.
By the end of the course, participants will have a confident working knowledge of accounts receivable management, enabling them to protect cash flow, reduce bad debt and maintain strong customer relationships for their employers and clients.
