Trainee Accountant Bootcamp

Overview

Why do employers choose one candidate over another when both candidates have similar tertiary education qualifications? Why is technical competency not the only gateway to success in the business world?

The answer to both questions lies in an individual's life skills. Today's cut-throat and fast-changing business world demands a lot more than what was required in the past.

This Work Readiness Bootcamp aims to give you those important life skills while honing out your technical skills at the same time. We cover topics such as Life-long Learning, Interactive Communication, Professional Skills, Managing your Personal Finances, Computer Basics, Fundamentals of Accounting, and QuickBooks Online.

The main purpose of this bootcamp is to produce an all-round competent candidate that continues to learn new skills, communicate effectively, act professionally, and apply good technical skills to produce excellent results and rise rapidly in the corporate world.

Lifelong learning enriches one’s life both from a personal perspective as well as professionally. Not only does it promote mental sharpness, it also helps one develop new skills that will enhance career opportunities. This session looks at the benefits of life-long learning, how to achieve 100% understanding, some learning tools and techniques as well as the principles for effective learning.

Interactive Communication

The ability to communicate effectively can have a profound effect on your personal and professional life. This communication skills training provides you with practical, effective tools to enable clear and effective verbal communication.

Basics of Organisations

In this topic we look at the basics of organizations. We discuss the functions within organizations and the various 'hats' we are expected to wear as employees of an organisation. We also discuss  products and deliverables as well as performance and outcomes.

Basics of Interpersonal Relationships

Workplaces are filled with a mix of different types of people, who each bring their own unique blend of skills, experience and qualifications to a company. When we are able to work comfortably and confidently together as a team we can achieve far more than we would individually. This makes interpersonal relationships integral to the success of your company – and your own career. In this topic we discuss communication, consensus and agreement as well as manners, etiquette and grooming and the role these play in improving interpersonal relationships at work.

Business Etiquette

Being able to handle yourself properly can sometimes be even more important than your technical skills. If you know what to do, when to do it, and how to do it with grace and style, you’ll have a competitive edge in your career. This topic will equip you with the business etiquette and protocol knowledge needed to conduct your business with more confidence, know-how, grace and efficiency in various situations at work.

Business Communication

The success of any business to a large extent depends on efficient and effective communication.  To be a successful communicator you need to be understood. The point of business communication is therefore not just to send a message, but to be understood. This topic is aimed at highlighting some common errors in emails, meetings, presentations and reports.

Productivity and Managing your performance

Developing self-management skills and abilities increases productivity and paves the way for career promotion and professional advancement. In this topic we discuss ways to improve your productivity and manage and evaluate your performance.

Making Better Decisions

We make decisions every day and while some decisions have little impact others have wide-reaching consequences. Decision-making tools are important in our personal lives, but even more critical at work so that we can reach our goals. In this topic we discuss how to make better decisions using helpful decision-making tools and best practices.

Managing your Personal Finances

Many people battle to make ends meet because they have never been exposed to the basic principles of managing their monthly income.  They end up with an empty bank account a few days after receiving a salary.  In this topic we discuss ways to assist new employees to successfully use and draw up a personal budget to manage their own finances carefully by implementing proper financial planning.

Presentation Skills

Presentations are a powerful way to communicate your message to a group. Whether you are trying to inform, educate, motivate or persuade your audience, delivering a good presentation is a way to leave a lasting impression and demonstrate your professionalism while promoting your company's image.  The key to delivering a great presentation is to clarify your objective, know your audience and structure the presentation. In this topic we provide information to help you gain a solid understanding of how to prepare and deliver a great presentation.

Fundamentals of Accounting

Excellence in any subject starts with understanding the basics. In this topic we go back to the basics of accounting as we talk about journals, debits and credits, ledgers, the trial balance and financial statements.

Computer Basics

Computer literacy is a must in the accounting field, and many other fields for that matter! In this topic we look at the personal computer and how to use it. We also go through MS Word and MS Excel, two important software programs that every accountant should know and understand.

Bookkeeping on MS Excel - Part 1

This topic introduces us to the practical application of MS Excel in bookkeeping and accounting tasks. Learn how to use pre-designed templates to capture real accounting documents, post to ledgers, work out payroll schedules, month-end journals, monthly trial balances and other routine tasks.

Bookkeeping on MS Excel - Part 2

In this topic we continue with bookkeeping on MS Excel with an introduction to more scenarios that may be encountered by practising bookkeepers and accountants. We close off this session by preparing a final trial balance and financial statements.

QuickBooks Online Accountant

The automation of accounting began some years back and any accountant worth his/her salt must be capable of using one or more of the many accounting software on the market. It is no exaggeration to say that failing to do so is a recipe for failure! In this topic we go through one of the most commonly used accounting software in South Africa - QuickBooks Online Accountant. As an added bonus, successful completion of the QuickBooks' Certification Training will earn candidates a certificate of competency issued by Intuit (QuickBooks' parent company).
