IRBA: Feedback on the IAASB’s Proposed Revisions to 3 ISAs addressing Audit Evidence, Responses to Assessed Risks and Analytical Review
- 25 September 2026
- Miscellaneous
- South African Accounting Academy
Summary:
The IRBA seeks feedback on the IAASB’s Proposed Revisions to 3 International Standards on Auditing Addressing Audit Evidence and Responses to Assessed Risks.
Article:
The International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) has released exposure drafts proposing revisions to ISA 330, The Auditor’s Response to Assessed Risks, ISA 500, Audit Evidence and ISA 520, Analytical Procedures, to strengthen risk-based auditing, enhance audit evidence requirements, and reflect the increasing use of technology in audits. Refer to our previous Alert dated 12 August 2026
The proposed revisions seek to:
- Establish a more comprehensive basis for auditors' judgements regarding audit evidence;
- Strengthen auditors' responses to assessed risks;
- Reinforce the application of professional scepticism and professional judgement throughout the audit; and
- Support innovation in auditing through a principles-based approach that remains adaptable to technological developments.
The proposed revisions also seek to improve alignment between the standards dealing with risk assessment, the auditor's responses to assessed risks, and the evaluation of sufficient appropriate audit evidence.
Comments should be submitted via email to standards@irba.co.za by 6 November 2026. All views will be considered as a public record. Auditors and other interested stakeholders may also submit comments directly to the IAASB via its website by 15 December 2026. Responses submitted to the IAASB need not address the 5 South African-specific questions listed in the IRBA Communiqué.
