Summary:
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has announced a new mandatory biometric enrolment and identity verification process for clients who do not possess the standard 13-digit South African identity number.
Article:
Biometric registration/enrolment applies to all individuals relying on alternative identification documents for grant collection.
The initiative, which is effective from 5 May 2025, aims to enhance security and improve the integrity of SASSA’s systems and the grant distribution process.
The new measure will apply to all new clients using alternative forms of identification, as well as existing clients undergoing reviews or updating their personal information.
This step is intended to prevent fraud and ensure accurate identification of grant recipients.
In addition, this process will also look inwardly and identify any possible collusion by SASSA officials, working in cahoots with the outside world to cheat system and effectively steal grant money meant for the poor.
This is parts of concerted efforts and proactive measures implemented by SASSA aimed at enhancing security, improving the integrity of our systems, and preventing potentially fraudulent activities related to identity misrepresentation.
