Summary:
The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) has published Educational material on the International Accounting Standards Board’s (IASB) illustrative examples on reporting uncertainties in the financial statements, to provide guidance and awareness on these illustrative examples.
Article:
In November 2025, the IASB issued Disclosures about Uncertainties in the Financial Statements, which added illustrative examples to the guidance accompanying several IFRS Accounting Standards – Amendments to Illustrative Examples on IFRS 7, IFRS 18, IAS 1, IAS 8, IAS 36 and IAS 37.
The objective of those examples is to illustrate how an entity applies the requirements in the Standards to report the effects of uncertainties in its financial statements. Access these illustrative examples at https://www.ifrs.org/content/dam/ifrs/publications/amendments/english/2025/iasb-2025-3-dufs-ie-amendments.pdf Refer to our previous Alert dated 11 Dec 2025
The illustrative examples have been approved and included as illustrative examples in the relevant IFRS Accounting Standard to which they relate.
There is no effective date of the illustrative examples as they do not amend the IFRS Accounting Standards. In other words, they are effective immediately. The release of the illustrative examples should improve the overall quality of financial reporting and support greater connectivity between financial reporting and sustainability-related disclosures.
SAICA encourages entities to consider the application of the illustrative examples to their financial statements.
