SARS Discontinues the Use of Cheques logo

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has issued a media releases on 12 November 2020, informing members that it will discontinue accepting cheques as a form of payment.

As from 14 December 2020, SARS will not accept cheques as a form of payment at Customs ports of entry and banks from 1 January 2021.

Taxpayers and Customs clients who need to make payment to SARS can use one of the following options:

  • eFiling
  • Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT)
  • At a bank branch (cash and EFT). All payments can be made at any ABSA, Capitec, FNB, Nedbank or Standard Bank branch
  • Travellers entering and leaving the country will still be able to pay cash at the port of entry.
